Here Is The Transcript

Hey guys, this is Josh Nelson with The Seven Figure Agency. We’re shooting a quick video on the topic of perfection. I’ve shot a couple videos over the last couple weeks just kind of walking you through my video studio, my home office, and some of the basic things you can do to make your video look professional, right?

One of the questions I get often is, “Well, I guess I need to wait until I have all of that set up perfectly before I start to do anything, right? I need perfection, right.”

Waiting For Perfection Is One Of The Worst Mistakes You Can Make

I think that’s one of the worst mistakes people make. They wait for perfection before they take action. If you look at some of our initial videos—ones we did as we were just getting started in our digital marketing agency—they were terrible. They were really, really bad.

Go back to my YouTube channel, look at Plumber SEO and you will see some of the ugliest, worst videos ever shot. Since then, we’ve spent a lot of time improving the quality, improving the professionalism, and making sure that they look good. We’re constantly improving. We’re constantly changing. We’re constantly iterating, and that’s something to feel proud of.

It Doesn’t Have To Be Perfect

I want to encourage you to do the same. If your first version isn’t a little bit embarrassing, you probably did something wrong. No, you don’t have to have the perfect sound quality. No, you don’t have to have the perfect lighting. No, you don’t have to have the perfect backdrop. Having SOMETHING is better than having nothing because it has to be perfect.

Look At Some Of My Bloopers In Recent Videos

If you look back over the last couple weeks at the videos that I’ve been producing, they’re pretty bad, right. There were some issues with the lighting. There were some issues with the sound quality. Those are mistakes I made, right?

The Video Was Bad, But The Content Was Great

I shot a video in here a couple days ago and I was standing right here talking about paid search and how to maximize the effectiveness of paid search. The video wasn’t very good because the lighting was bad and I was standing too far away from the camera.

But the content was high quality, and we still got a lot of great comments on it. It’s a good example of the fact that even if you don’t have the perfect set up, you can still put out content, and you can still use it to position your business, and create momentum.

Yes, I Made Mistakes But…

  • Still, I got them done.
  • I got them shot and out to my audience.
  • We’re getting comments on them, and attention from our audience.
  • We took action, and moved forward on our trajectory.
  • In spite of the videos being imperfect, we still got positive momentum.

I always believe that imperfect action beats inaction any day of the week. Whatever you’ve got, if you’ve only got a webcam right now, use that webcam and shoot some videos. Create great content. The content and the action are more important than the perfection.

What’s Preventing You From Taking Action?

Make a list of whatever is holding you back, and then scratch it off. Because I can tell you from personal experience that it’s better to do something imperfect then to wait around for perfection. Perfection is never really going to happen. It’s just an obstacle we use to hold ourselves back.

Go Out, Take Action, Get Things Done

Would love to hear your comments on what’s preventing you from taking action on getting those webinars done. What’s keeping you from shooting those videos, and putting out the content? Make a comment in the Comment box below.

Stop Making Excuses And Take Action

So, that’s all for now. Hopefully, this message is loud and clear. Go out, take action, get it done, stop making excuses. Inaction is the biggest problem, right? The best thing you can do is start wherever you are with whatever you’ve got. Get into action and make it happen. Talk to you later.

If You Want More Information About Setup For Your Home Video Studio…

I recently shot a video showing you the lights that I use, the camera that I use, the mic that I use, and how I frame the shot. If you’d like that information, check out this blog post How To Set Up Your Home Office Video Studio.

The setup I did in my own home office, you can set something like that up for about probably $250, $300. So, if you want to, go back and check that out. It’s pretty cool. I  walk you through some basic tweaks you can make in terms of your lighting, in terms of your sound quality to make great videos.
