If you’re trying to stand out as an expert digital marketing agency in your niche, finding and leveraging speaking opportunities is one of the most important steps you can take.

Whether you’re speaking at conferences, on webinars, or on podcasts, stage time is money time. Any time you have the opportunity to get in front of your ideal clients, that opportunity will have a ripple effect to grow your revenue and profitability.

So how do you hone and leverage speaking opportunities? Here are the expert tips we teach our Seven Figure Agency Members.

The Power of Speaking Engagements

If you aren’t currently sharpening your public speaking skills and searching for speaking opportunities, you’re leaving money on the table. In any industry, two main roles expertly showcase a person’s authority on a subject:

  • The person who has written a book on a topic. (When you read the best books on digital marketing, you automatically view the author as an expert.)
  • The person who is leading a presentation on a topic. (Anyone who is leading a presentation has to know what they’re talking about, right?)

Standing at the front of the room as an experienced speaker on digital marketing in your niche instantly shows audience members that they can trust your agency. And when those audience members consist mainly of potential clients who own businesses in your niche, you’re only one step away from onboarding new clients.

Finding Speaking Opportunities

Any speaking opportunity has the potential to grow your company. But certain opportunities can do more for your agency’s authority than others.

Usually, securing your spot at an industry conference or seminar involves more than just sending an email and asking to speak. Instead, follow these steps to pinpoint and secure the best opportunities:

Research

Start by researching events that are happening in your industry. You can conduct a Google Search for “[your niche] conferences” and look at association websites in your industry. You can even use ChatGPT to come up with an initial list of events.

After finding events you’re interested in, look for the contact details of the event organizers. Locating this information can help you understand whether the event is looking for education providers and would consider allowing you (or even paying you) to speak.

Assets

You can’t ask for an opportunity to speak without having the right assets to accompany your proposition. Spend some time researching and gathering topic ideas and hooks that you will center your presentation around.

If you already have unique strategies or models that you use in your agency, speaking opportunities present an excellent chance for you to leverage them. Event organizers are looking for compelling topics to include in their programming, so your hooks should present new ideas. But they also need to connect to your digital marketing services and show audience members why they should hire your agency.

You should also have a short bio and a headshot to send to event organizers along with your topic ideas.

Outreach

Researching events and compiling your assets puts you in an excellent position to begin reaching out to prospective speaking engagements. Start making calls, sending DMs, and writing emails to event organizers. Join industry associations, follow relevant pages on social media, and be prepared to reach out when opportunities arise.

Usually, the process of landing speaking opportunities takes a little bit of time. You may need to send out over a dozen inquiries before you hear anything back. But once you start booking paid speaking engagements, your authority will grow, and you’ll have an easier time securing future opportunities.

Leveraging Alternative Opportunities

Speaking at conferences and in-person events holds the most power to grow your digital marketing agency. But other types of speaking opportunities can still expand your brand reach and solidify your industry authority while you work up to larger engagements.

You can start by looking for podcasts and webinars in your industry that can allow you to showcase your expertise. These engagements can allow you to practice your speaking skills while getting in front of an audience of potential clients.
